1) No Accountability

Accountability is an important part of committing to a fat loss plan. Many of us tend to go easy on ourselves when we don’t have someone to answer to.  It’s also valuable to have a well trained and knowledgeable professional to guide you and tel you what to do, when to do it and to make sure you’re actually making progress.

2) Not Tracking Your Food

If you don’t know how much you’re consuming, you cannot facilitate change.  There are likely several foods you eat that slip under the radar because you don’t keep track.  You can use apps like a cronometer , my fitness pal or even a pen and paper or your phone to record your food.

3) Not Exercising

Strength training helps to build muscle. Muscle is the engine for the metabolism. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn both during activity and at rest. Cardiovascular exercise will also burn calories and some of that is fat. It’s wise to do a variety of exercises. A combination of resistance training, high intensity interval training and steady state cardio over the course of the week is ideal.

4) Too Much Stress

Whether it comes from your job, your kids, finances or relationships it plays a large role in how well your body recovers from exercise and how much fat you can burn. It’s important to be realistic with how much stress you’re under. I recommend using a scale of 1-10. 1= no stress…life is amazing all of the time. 10 = ready to pull your hair out. Find activities that you can use to manage your stress such as meditation, hiking, yoga, calming music or making time to be by yourself.

5) Lack Of Commitment

This is the most important factor on this list. Without commitment you’ll never get started and  stick with the process. What helps with commitment is determining your reason “Why”. Just saying you want to lose 20 lbs is often not deep enough. Why do you want to accomplish this goal? In what ways will your life be better by achieving it?   Maybe you decide it’s because you want to be alive to see your children walk down the aisle or you want to regain your confidence.  The more powerful and emotional your reason the more likely you are to succeed.
